Family Of Two Toddlers Crushed By Fallen Dresser Sues Babies R Us Store, Furniture Maker

The family of two toddler sisters who died after a dresser fell on them is now suing the Babies R Us store where the dresser was purchased in Pennsylvania, as well as a New Jersey furniture maker.

A lawyer for the family filed the wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the 3-year-old and her 2-year-old sister, reports the Associated Press. The Times Online (subscription required) reports that the lawsuit also names a Babies R Us store employee.

The lawsuit claims that the girls’ mother bought the dresser built by the N.J. company from a Babies R Us store in 2010. The dresser later fell on the girls in their home, with one sister dying that day and her younger sister passing away two days later.

The family alleges in the lawsuit that the dresser lacked an anchoring strap to keep it from falling.

Neither Babies R Us nor the dresser company commented on the lawsuit immediately to the AP.
