Authorities Have No Idea How Family Bought LSD-Contaminated Beef At Walmart

How does a package of beef become contaminated with the hallucinogenic drug LSD? Authorities in Florida and in the federal government have been trying to figure that out for the last right months. Last week, local police in Tampa released their report and made the case inactive. They still have no idea how the drug got there.

The family who were drugged consisted of a pregnant woman, her boyfriend, and her 6- and 7-year-old daughters. Everyone ate the contaminated meat, which was a bottom round steak purchased at a nearby Walmart. Investigators with the Food and Drug Administration traced the beef, which came from agricultural giant Cargill, all the way back to the slaughterhouse in Georgia. No one noticed any tampering with the product once it reached Walmart, and it had traveled in a sealed container from the slaughterhouse to a distribution facility.


The best lead was surveillance camera footage from the Walmart store of the meat case where the beef was on display: two men were captured acting strangely near the case, but investigators ultimately cleared them.


At the time they were drugged, the family went to a local hospital. The mother and daughters were hyperventilating, and had breathing tubes placed. The baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section. Tampa police along with USDA and FDA agents interviewed the family and found no evidence that the parents had drugged the meat themselves. There was no sign of it in the oven (which they had not used before making the steak wraps) or elsewhere, but LSD was detected in the uneaten steak.

Uber And Spotify Pair Up To Allow Riders To Choose Their Own Tunes For The Drive

“What do you mean when you say you ‘have no Janet Jackson’??!?!” at least one car full of people has gaspscreamed at at least one car service driver (sorry, guy). That outraged reaction could be a thing of the past for Uber customers, as the company has joined forces with Spotify to offer Spotify Premium account holders the ability to play their own playlists and control the music during some Uber rides.

In this case, “some” Uber rides means in cars that are “music-enabled,” the companies explained in an announcement today in a joint statement. The rollout starts Nov. 21 in 10 launch cities: London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney and Toronto.


You’ll have to have a Spotify Premium account first of all and then connect it to your Uber account — and only this one time –from the Uber profile screen or sign-up page.


Then any time you request a rider in the Uber app and it shows you’ve matched with an Uber that has music, the music bar will appear at the bottom of the app. Tapping it allows riders to either select music from a ready-made playlist, queue up your own playlist or search for new stuff to play during the ride.


When the car arrives, your music will supposedly already be playing when you get in. You can then put your phone away and enjoy the ride, or wirelessly control the tunes from either the Uber or Spotify apps.


This sounds neat, but as it’s unclear how many drivers will actually have music-enabled cars. As such, we’ve reached out to Uber to see if we can get an idea of how widespread the music option is expected to be.


Because if I can’t get some JJ on when I’m in the mood for it, I’m going to employ the gaspscream if I need to.

Snapchat’s New Snapcash Service Allows Users To Send Money To Friends


Snapchat unveiled a new service in partnership with Square that allows users to transfer funds to friends.



Over the last year Snapchat has evolved from a system that allows users to communicate through photos that self-destruct after 10 seconds, to a full on chat messaging system that flashed pictures and videos for 10 seconds at a time. Now the social sharing app, which has been the target of numerous security hacks, is offering a new service: Payment transfers between users’ bank accounts.


Officials with Snapchat announced on the company’s blog (with a ridiculously cheesy video, no less) that it has partnered with Square to create Snapcash.


To use the service, consumers have to enter their debit card into Snapchat, then swipe into chat, type the dollar sign and an amount, and finally hit the green button.


After that, Square processes the payment, sending cash to your friend’s bank account.


In addition to processing the payments, Square will also be in charge of storing users’ card numbers.


“We set out to make payments faster and more fun, but we also know that security is essential when you’re dealing with money,” the company wrote in the blog post. “Square has a ton of experience in this area and our teams have been hard at work to make Snapcash a great experience for everyone.”


For now the service is available to Snapchat users in the United States who have debit cards and are 18 years of age or older.


While officials with Snapchat make it clear that consumers’ personal financial information is stored through Square, the company’s history of security breaches could be enough to make anyone leery using the messaging service to transfer money.


Back in January, 4.6 million Snapchat phone numbers and usernames were leaked online. Shortly after the breach, the company created a more secure version of its app.


However, the following month users were bombarded by spam photos of smoothies in what appeared to be another hack.


And just last month photos from 200,000 Snapchat users were made available for download online, in what the company says was a result of consumers using third-party apps to access the program.
