Business Owner Admits Peddling Fake Urine, Other Products Online To Help People Thwart Drug Tests

Not so lucky now.

Not so lucky now.

The United States Government takes pee very seriously, it seems, especially when many government agencies rely on urine to screen federal employees for drugs. An Ohio man pleaded guilty in federal court this week, admitting he sold products intended to help people pass those employment drug urine tests.

Selling products designed to flush out drugs or replicate urine like “Never Fail a Urine Drug Test,” “Urine Luck” and “Magnum Unisex Synthetic Urine” as part of an online business called ACS Herbal Tea, the man admitted to peddling the products for the last eight years, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Shilling products to skirt such tests goes against regulations by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and one count of misbranding drugs into interstate commerce, after undercover agents bought some of his products in the last few years as part of an investigation into the company.

The charge of misbranding drugs comes from two products “Eliminator Detox Carbo Drink” and “Quick Flush Herbal Detox Pills,” as the government considers those products to be drugs and they weren’t identified as such on labels or in ads, said prosecutors.

His attorney told the judge upon entering the guilty plea that the man now realizes his products “are not as harmless as he thought.” He’s now facing up to six years in prison, a fine of $350,000 or both.

Verizon Cuts Rates For Data Plans, But Not Automatically For Existing Customers

In spite of Verizon Wireless’ recent boasts that it’s “a leader, not a follower,” a new announcement from the nation’s biggest wireless company shows that Big V is indeed following the competition down the path of charging customers less for their data plans. However, current Verizon subscribers will need to let the company know they want to save money (or get more data).

It’s a little confusing, so stick with us for a moment.

Verizon MORE Everything customers who currently have monthly data allotments of 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, or 4GB will have an option on how they want to save.

They can either get more data for their money by getting 1GB of additional data per month for no extra charge OR they can have their bill reduced by $10/month.

So someone with a 2GB plan is currently paying $50/month. If they take the free data option, that goes to 3GB for the same price. Or they can elect to stick with the 2GB and their data bill drops to $40/month.

A rep for Verizon confirms to Consumerist that current Verizon subscribers will not be automatically opted into either of these choices and must let the company know — either by calling customer service or through the Verizon website — when the changes kick in tomorrow, Feb. 5.

For new customers or those looking to change their data plans, Verizon is also offering a new 6GB/month tier at $70.

Verizon is also making its Edge program, where you pay full price for your phone in monthly installments, more attractive. Customers with plans starting at 6GB/month or more will get a $25/month discount. Currently, to qualify for that level of discount, you need to be on a plan of 10GB/month or more. Plans of 4GB/month or less still see a monthly discount of $15.

Maker Of Designer Doors For IKEA Cabinets Booted From Expo By IKEA

Why does IKEA mistreat the people who love their products? First, the Swedes picked on IKEAhacker.com, a site that spent nearly a decade helping people make the most out of their funny-named furniture. Now comes news that IKEA Canada used its leverage to have Semihandmade — a company that makes doors that fit on IKEA designs — booted from a major design show.

According to Treehugger, Semihandmade had apparently already set up its booth at the recent Interior Design Show in Toronto when IKEA Canada, a sponsor of the event, claimed that Semihandmade infringed upon the IKEA name and trademark.

The company’s products are intended to go on IKEA furniture, which is perfectly legal. You can do whatever you want to your furniture after you buy it. You don’t see Apple going after companies that sell sleeves for iPods.

What likely irked IKEA was the use of the IKEA name in Semihandmade’s display. The company offered to cover up that logo but that still didn’t seem to appease IKEA, so Semihandmade disappeared from the show floor.

In an Instagram posting, the company says it was the first time that this has happened.

“We’ve been at this for a while now. IKEA US is quite familiar with us and has been supportive,” wrote Semihandmade. “We’re also careful not to imply affiliation.”

When reached for comment by Consumerist, a rep for IKEA Canada says, “I have personally been in contact with the owner of Semihandmade and have provided an apology for how the situation at the Interior Design Show unfolded. We came to a resolution and have parted on good terms.”
