Apple says consumers who recently switched from iPhones to Android devices should soon be able to rest easier, after it claims to have fixed one issue that left some people unable to receive text messages from iPhone users.
Most iPhone users send texts via Apple’s iMessage service, which has additional features to standard SMS messaging. So when an iPhone user switches to a non-iOS device, they need to turn off iMessage or subsequent texts from iPhone users will still be sent as iMessages, meaning they won’t show up on your new Android phone.
However, people recently began to notice that they were not receiving messages from iPhone users even though they had turned off iMessage.
Officials with Apple tell Re/code that the company has addressed one vague issue causing this problem, and that there are future fixes to come.
“We recently fixed a server-side iMessage bug which was causing an issue for some users, and we have an additional bug fix in a future software update,” Apple tells Re/code in a statement.
The issue came to light last week when consumers spread their horror stories of delayed and undelivered text messages after making the switch from the iPhones.
While a solution might be in place now, Apple will still have to answer for the issue in the form of a lawsuit seeking class-action status filed last week in California.
The plaintiff alleges that Apple customers who replace their devices with non-Apple phones and tables are “penalized and unable to obtain the full benefits of their wireless-service contracts.”
