World’s Largest Video Game Collection Sells For $750,000 (Maybe)

crikey When last we checked in with the auction for the world’s largest video game collection, bidding had reached just more than $90,000 — a substantial amount of money but far short of the $700K-800K estimate the seller had put on it a few months earlier. Turns out his approximation was spot-on, with the winning bid coming in at slightly more than $750,000.

According to info on auction site GameGavel, the final bid on the Guinness-crowned collection of nearly 11,000 titles (many of them still factory-sealed) from 21 different consoles was $750,250.

There are some questions about the actual bidding for this collection, as a look at the bid history shows that the winning bidder was outbidding himself during a 2-3 minute period on June 10 in which the price increased from $150,000 to $500,000. After that, it was just two bidders going back and forth until reaching the final bid that remained unchallenged for the final three days of the auction.

So until the seller actually has cash in hand, he probably shouldn’t rush out and buy a house or something foolish like that.
